Edge Hill Sports Facility

Edge Hill University gained planning approval early 2012 to develop twenty five hectares of green belt land into a sports facility.

Phase 1 included the construction of new access roads and car parking to accommodate increased student numbers.

Phase 2 included the construction of three 6000m2 3G multi use sports pitches, four grass rugby / football pitches and a new athletics stadium for track and field events. Also included in this phase was a 4000m2 lake to act as a balancing pond to manage offsite surface water flows in line with Environment Agency restrictions. Large underground tanks are used to attenuate flows but also provide temporary storage for recycled irrigation water.
